Route Changes FAQs

Q. Why are roads in my area collected on different days?

A. Routes have been created to be as efficient as possible covering the whole of South Holland. Your collection day may differ to others in your neighbourhood so please refer to the date provided in your letter or by visiting https://www.sholland.gov.uk/mycollections

Q. Why are my Refuse and Recycling collections now on the same day or why are they not?

A. When undertaking route sequencing the mapping tool identified the most efficient routes for both the refuse and recycling waste collection.   This exercise may have identified both your collections to be on the same day.  As the two types of waste are disposed of differently they cannot be collected in the same vehicle. This exercise may have identified both your collections to be on the same day or it may have split your collection days into different days.

Q. Why are sacks not collected from bins or other receptacles?

A. We are unable to continue to collect from any receptacle due to health and safety reasons for our crews.  If residents are concerned about animal attacks on household waste stored in the sacks, they can put their sacks in a traditional dustbin however, the sacks must be removed from the dustbin or receptacle and secured for presentation at the kerbside before collection.

Q. What are we doing and why?

A. To ensure the routes are operating as efficiently as possible, it has been necessary to carry out an extensive route mapping exercise to improve the refuse and recycling routes across the district.

Q. What is changing?

A. Collection days - Residents across the district may have their collection day changed from 2nd October 2023, as part of the extensive route improvement exercise.

Paper and Card trial - As a result, the separate collection of paper and card will be ending from 2nd October 2023. Clean paper and card should be placed in your green sacks and presented each week. If you have any remaining purple sacks, you can continue to use these with your green recycling sacks.

Q. How will I be notified?

A. We are writing to all households and using social media to explain the changes if you haven't received a letter from us you can check your next collection by visiting https://www.sholland.gov.uk/mycollections

Q. What is not changing?

A.The way you present your waste

  • Your recycling (in green bags) and your refuse (black sack) should be put out at your property's curtilage no earlier than 6pm the night before and by 6am on the correct day for it to be collected.
  • If you run out of green sacks, you can use any other colour sack (not black) or a recyclable container (which will not be returned).
  • Sacks will not be collected from bins or any other reusable receptacle.
