Work at Elections - next elections 2025
We are always looking to recruit people to assist at the elections and during the annual registration canvass. If you're interested, please complete the below online request form.
The electoral job opportunities available include:
- Canvass Staff
Each Autumn, canvassers are employed by the Electoral Registration Officer to make personal visits to properties where the occupants have not responded to the annual canvass form.
- Election Staff - for each election, the Returning Officer appoints the following staff:
Polling Station Staff (Presiding Officer and Poll Clerk) - the polling station staff are responsible for the conduct of the ballot in each polling station, making sure that the proper procedure for voting is followed. On election day polling station staff are required to work from 6.30am until after 10pm without leaving the polling station. They will also be required to attend a training session.
Counting staff - counting staff are employed to count the votes on the day and at the time appointed by the Returning Officer. This often usually takes place on the night of election day and goes through the night into the early hours.
Postal Votes staff - staff are employed to open postal votes - this usually take place during the day-time only.
