Driver safeguarding e-learning FAQs

  • Why do I have to complete the taxi driver safeguarding e-learning course?
The very nature of the role of a taxi driver brings them into contact with a wide range of people. Some people may be at risk of exploitation and raise concerns with their taxi driver. By taking the safeguarding training, drivers are equipped to spot the signs and understand their responsibilities to report any suspicions.

  • Do I have to undertake both e-learning courses?
Yes it is a requirement to complete both the:
Introduction to Safeguarding Everyone in Lincolnshire, and
Taxi Driver Child Sexual Exploitation Awareness.

  • I have already completed the same course for another Local Authority in Lincolnshire, do I need to complete it again?
If you have completed both courses within the last 12 months, please forward both pass certificates to the Licensing Team by emailing them to licensing@sholland.gov.uk

If you have completed both courses but not within the last 12 months, you will be expected to undertake both courses again.

  • I have already completed a similar course, do I still have to do this one?
We do not accept any other qualifications as an acceptable substitute for attending. The course has been specifically designed for Lincolnshire taxi and private hire licence holders. We are aware that Lincolnshire County Council may require school transport drivers to complete a different e-learning course. You will still need to complete this one. If you have completed both courses within the last 12 months, please email your pass certificates to licensing@sholland.gov.uk.

  • Isn't the e-learning course open to cheating?
Safeguarding is the action we take to promote the welfare of children and adults at risks, it is everyone's responsibility. The training programme is designed to raise awareness and equip drivers with the skills for their role. The course requires the attendee to click a box declaring a legal declaration that any false declaration will be seen as fraud.

  • Am I going to have to pay for anything?
No, the training programme is provided free of charge.

  • If I fail the assessment can I do it again?
Yes. If you don't pass, don't worry. You can take the assessment up to three times with no charge.

  • What happens if I fail the assessment after three attempts?
Failure to pass the programme after three attempts will result in the matter being referred to the Licensing Committee.

  • Is there a time limit on completing the course?
    > New Drivers: both pass certificates must be produced either prior to or with application for a hackney carriage or private hire licence.

    > Existing Drivers: all drivers will be required to complete and pass both training modules by the date specified on your correspondence. Evidence of passing both courses will be required to be submitted along with application for renewal.
Failure to complete the training programme may result in the matter being referred to the Licensing Committee.
