Sheltered Housing project - Consultation

South Holland District Council has 1026 sheltered housing properties in its Housing Revenue Account portfolio, ranging from bedsits to two-bedroom bungalows, along with 14 community centres and 12 guest rooms. The digital revolution is gathering pace; this has been seen to be even more important during the pandemic and as it eases.

The main analogue phone line providers (BT, Talk Talk, Sky, Virgin) have already announced that they will no longer provide the copper analogue lines as standard to any new customers from 2022, and that the aim is to have all current exchanges working from a fibre digital line from 2025 at the latest

For SHDC the consequence of these changes mean that the hard-wired equipment installed in all our Sheltered Housing properties (those with pull cords) will no longer work once the exchange that deals with our phone lines has been fibre enabled.

We have recently carried out consultations with our residents to understand the demands of our residents. We will be writing to them in the near future with these outcomes and how we plan to progress changes to the current service.

In the meantime if you have any comments please feel free to contact us via email at shelteredhousingteam@sholland.gov.uk.
