New tenants
Welcome, we hope you will be happy in your new home. This page contains some information that may help if you have recently moved into a Council property.
Managing your rent account
You will have paid four weeks rent in advance at your sign-up appointment - you should keep continue to keep your rent account in credit at all times. You can pay your rent in a variety of ways.
Gas, Electricity and Water
You are responsible for getting your gas, electricity and water supplies set up in your name. As standard, our properties are set up with British Gas for gas and electricity, and Anglian Water for water supplies.
When you sign your tenancy agreement, we'll give you up-to-date readings of your gas, electricity and water meters. You should give these to the suppliers when you set up your accounts.
Council Tax
You are responsible for paying Council Tax for your property - you should register with Council Tax. If you earn a low income, are unemployed, or live alone, you may be able to get a discount or help with paying your Council Tax.
Decorating your home
You are responsible for decorating the inside of your home. We may give you a decorating voucher when you move in. If you are awarded a voucher, you can use this voucher at the Wilkos, Parkway Long Sutton, Bridge Hardware Sutton Bridge, Andrews Spalding, and Tonwoods Holbeach - it must be used within 3 months.
Your new home does not come with carpets or furniture. If you receive state benefits, you may be able to get a Budgeting Loan/Budgeting Advance from the Job Centre. Spalding Town Husbands offers grants to some households via the Spalding Relief in Need Charity - please contact Citizens Advice for more information. You can also seek cheap and sometimes free items from Facebook Market Place and charity shops.
