How to pay an invoice
Pay an invoice by Direct Debit
To pay an invoice by Direct Debit, please print and complete the Direct Debit mandate (PDF) [659KB] (opens new window) and return to the address given on the form.
If you are already paying by Direct Debit, your payments will continue each year unless you cancel the instruction with your bank or building society.
Pay an invoice online
You can make a payment online (opens new window) and check how much is outstanding on your invoice. To pay online you will need to;
- select 'debtors invoice' from the payment options
- enter your invoice number, and
- follow the on-screen instructions.
Pay an invoice at a PayPoint
You can pay a council bill at a PayPoint station, find your nearest PayPoint. Please make sure you take your bill with you, as it has a barcode you need to use.
Pay an invoice at a Post Office
You can pay a council bill at your local post offices. Find your nearest Post Office and make sure you take your bill with you, as it has a barcode you need to use.
Pay an invoice by phone
You can make a payment or check how much is outstanding on your invoice by calling our 24 hour automated telephone payment line. To use this service you will need;
- to call 0345 340 9310
- choose option 4 (for invoices/debtors invoice)
- your invoice number
- a debit or credit card
- a pen and paper to note the payment reference number.
Please allow up to three working days for payments to reach us. The payment reference number is your receipt and should be quoted to us, with your invoice number, if you need to contact us about your payment.
Please note that calls to the automated service are charged at the local rate.
Pay an invoice by Standing Order or online banking
To pay by standing order you will need to arrange this through your bank, or your online banking. To set up a standing order, you will need to state;
- the amount to be paid
- the date that payment is due
- your invoice number, which is stated on your bill
- our bank details.

Please allow at least five working days for payment to reach us.
Other ways to pay an invoice
We cannot accept credit card payments for Council Tax, Business Rates or Housing Rent. You can use your credit card for any other service.
