Tug of war and outdoor cinema to raise funds for South Holland chairman's chosen charities this August

The chairman of South Holland District Council is challenging you all to join him in a charity tug of war.

Cllr Andrew Woolf has organised a tug of war which will be one of the many activities on offer at South Holland's Give it a Go day on Sunday 13 August.

As well as a charity tug of war, Spalding Round Table has kindly agreed to host three family outdoor cinema events, using funds raised at Spalding Festival. The money raised at the event will help support the chairman with his charity fundraising.

Both the tug of war and the outdoor cinema will raise money for Cllr Woolf's chosen charities, Blood Cancer UK and Mencap.

The tug of war, part of the Give it a Go day, will take place at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field in Spalding. The day offers people a chance to try activities for free from local sports clubs and community groups through a range of workshops and demonstrations, giving everyone the chance to learn something new.

Cllr Woolf said: "The Give it a Go day is always good fun and a way of getting people involved in new activities. The tug of war will be a fun event, guaranteed to bring laughter to those watching as well as to the teams taking part.

"Teams are invited to enter now so why not get a team together from your workplace, family or friends and give it a go!

"Anyone can enter, no matter your age or ability. It's all about having a go and by doing so you will be helping raise money for the two charities I've chosen to support during my term as Chairman."

The same week, in partnership with Spalding Round Table, an outdoor cinema event will take place on Friday 18 August and Saturday 19 August in Ayscoughfee Gardens.

The first film screening will be at 6pm on Friday 18 August to watch The Greatest Showman and this will be a sing-a-long event.

On Saturday morning at 11am, there will be a sing-a-long to Disney's Frozen and the fun continues later on Saturday with the classic Top Gun from 6pm.

Tickets for a family of four will cost £5, adults (over 16) £2 and under 16s, £1. Tickets are subject to availability and are expected to go quickly.

For the tug of war, teams need to be made up of seven people each and entry is £10 per team.

The Give it a Go day is from 11am-3pm, with the tug of war taking place from midday.
