Disabled Facilities Grants (DFGs)

A Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) is for essential adaptations to help you live safely and independently in your home if you are disabled or have a long term health condition.

Adaptations may include:

  • widening doorways and installing ramps, to help you move freely around and out of your home.
  • improving access to rooms and facilities e.g. installing a stair-lift.
  • improving bathroom facilities — installing a level access shower / changing the type of wash basin
  • improving hygiene facilities - changing the height or type of toilet.
  • adapting controls on heating or lighting systems
  • altering kitchen units and work surfaces, to make them easier to reach.

Applications for assistance can be made by both owner-occupiers and tenants.

Disabled Facilities Grants are means tested, unless for a child under 19 years of age (qualifying for child benefit) and require a formal referral from an Occupational Therapist.

For information on eligibility, and next steps please refer to the Disabled Facilities Grant leaflet (PDF, 718 KB).

If you think that you qualify for a Disabled Facilities Grant, contact Lincolnshire Social Services to request an assessment by an Occupational Therapist. If the adaptation is for an adult, telephone 01522 782155 or for a child, telephone 01522 309025. Further information can be found on their website:
