New measures on dog fouling in South Holland

Following public consultation, South Holland District Council's Cabinet has agreed to implement a new Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) on dog fouling and irresponsible dog ownership.

New dog measures

This order will be enforced from early 2025 and details will be published on our website and through our communications channels. A PSPO provides a means to address issues that negatively impact the local community.

The PSPO will enable action against irresponsible dog owners who fail to clean up after their dogs or cannot provide evidence of having the means to do so. It also excludes dogs from enclosed children's play areas.

Notices related to the Dog Controls PSPO will be displayed throughout the district, prioritising hot spots for dog fouling and enclosed children's play areas. Council officers will work with communities to raise awareness about the PSPO's aims.

Cllr Anthony Casson, Portfolio Holder for Public Protection at South Holland District Council, said: "We recognise that most people act responsibly when exercising their dogs, however complaints about dog fouling, and the positive response from the public consultation, support us taking action. This is an important step to tackle environmental issues like dog fouling, and it's something that is working well in Boston and East Lindsey."

Failure to comply with these requirements could result in a £100 Fixed Penalty Notice (FPN).
