Pantomime box office sales record broken for the third year in a row - a press release from the South Holland Centre
Posted 22 January 2025
Forty performances of Snow White were produced by Polka Dot Pantomimes last month, from Saturday 7 to Monday 30 December.
The series of performances attracted 28 schools and community groups, including Ayscoughfee Hall Schools, Quadring Primary, Mencap, Fleet Wood Lane Primary, Moulton Chapel Primary, The Chappell Centre, and Bourne Academy.
In total, 12,317 tickets were sold, representing 86% of all available tickets. This is an increase from 78% of all tickets that were sold for Beauty and the Beast, the pantomime from December 2023.
Online feedback from the public through social media comments and Google reviews was very positive.
A commenter said on Facebook, "Great pantomime [and] me and my children loved it. Well done to everyone. Can't wait for next year".
A pantomime regular, also on Facebook, said "The whole show is fab: one of the best Polka Dot Pantomimes - great music, staging, cast and backstage crew [...] Hard to pick a favourite moment but the wicked queen's 'Defying Gravity' is a great bit of theatre".
Many left Google reviews about Snow White, with one of them saying, "We saw 'Snow White' during the Xmas period and thought that the show and cast were fantastic. We visit Spalding every Xmas to see our in-laws and we have to go to the pantomime show. Morgana, Nanny Nelly and Herman were awesome but so were the rest of the cast. Fantastic value for such a great show".
Joanne Mackel, Manager for the South Holland Centre, said "Snow White has made Christmas 2024 one to remember at the South Holland Centre.
"I am very grateful for the contributions from all members of staff and the amazing team at Polka Dot Pantomimes, for making Snow White our most successful pantomime yet!
"A big thank you to everyone who booked tickets, including all the local schools and community groups. I hope that you're as excited as I am for The Wizard of Oz and Rapunzel, both of which are coming later this year!"
Cllr Henry Bingham, Portfolio Holder for Assets and Strategic Planning, said: "I am once again pleased by the success of the South Holland Centre's yearly Christmas Pantomime.
"Thank you to everyone who showed their support for Snow White, which was necessary to make 2024's pantomime the most successful so far; with an outstanding 86% of the available tickets sold.
"I hope that everyone who saw Snow White in December 2024 loved the pantomime and will continue to support the South Holland Centre and its shows for years to come."
Darren Maddison, Company Director at Polka Dot Pantomimes, said, "We are thrilled that our production of Snow White received amazing feedback and that a record number of people attended the South Holland Centre at Christmas. We are very fortunate to work with incredibly talented casts, backstage staff, technical teams and the wonderful theatre staff and volunteers.
As soon as one pantomime finishes, we begin working on the organisation of the next one and the hair-larious Rapunzel is the chosen 2025 title. Audiences are going to be wowed! With special discounts for schools, groups and families, the Spalding pantomime is the most competitively priced in the area as we believe theatre should be able to be enjoyed by everyone - and we can't wait to welcome the local community again to the South Holland Centre."
