Review of Polling Districts, Places and Stations 2023/24
South Holland District Council has a statutory duty to undertake a full review of all polling districts and polling places for the whole of the district every five years to ensure they have accessible and convenient facilities for voting.
Key Terms:
- a polling district is a geographical subdivision of an electoral area such as a County Division or a District Ward within which a polling place is designated.
- a polling place is an area or building in which a polling station is usually located and can be a complete polling district.
- a polling station is a room or building where voting actually takes place. There can be more than one polling station in a polling place, which is common in many areas, but where possible there should be no more than 2250 electors allocated to a polling station.
- Polling Districts can be created as an electoral requirement but also as a means to provide a more conveniently located polling station for the electorate.
