Air Quality in South Holland

Part IV of the Environment Act 1995 places a statutory duty on local authorities to review and assess the air quality within their area and take account of Government Guidance when undertaking such work.

We undertake continuous monitoring at our two air quality stations, and passive monitoring using 18 diffusion tubes across the district which are changed monthly.

In addition, we inspect processes regulated under Part 2 of Schedule 1 of the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2010 and give advice when people must have a bonfire.

Each year we publish an annual status report on our air quality and how it compares to the national air quality objectives. Levels of air pollution in the district are generally low, and as such we do not have any Air Quality Management Areas.
