Fire Safety
Please contact us if you would have difficulty evacuating your home in the event of a fire due to a disability or vulnerability, OR if you have oxygen in your home. We can organise a personalised evacuation plan for you and consider if you need any additional items installing to meet any disabilities.
If you live in a flat, additional steps are taken to protect residents. Further information can be found on our Fire Safety in Flats page
Steps you can take to help reduce the risk of a fire in your home
- All properties have a hard-wired smoke detection system.
- General needs tenants should test their smoke alarms once a week.
- Sheltered Housing tenants should give Lincolnshire Housing Partnership access to their home each quarter for them to test their alarm system including their smoke detectors. This system is connected to and monitored by a call centre.
- Keep exits from your home clear and keys to windows and doors in easy reach.
- Keep flat communal areas, corridors and staircases clear of large items such as prams, bikes or large plant pots as these could get in the way of people evacuating the building, and could also fuel a fire. We will remove these if they are found upon a property inspection.
- Plan your escape route
- Accidents while cooking account for over half of fires at home. Don't leave children alone in the kitchen.
- Don't leave candles unattended when lit.
- Don't smoke in bed.
- Close all doors at night to help prevent the spread of fire.
- Don't overload electrical sockets.
- Switch off and unplug your TV and other electrical goods - leaving them on standby could cause a fire.
