Frequently asked questions about fire safety advice

I thought it wasn't safe to stay in a flat if there's a fire?

We don't have any flats taller than 3 stories high and different rules apply to 'high rise' blocks of flats. All flats were fully assessed by an Independent Fire Safety Consultant in November 2019.  If there is a fire elsewhere in the building then the structure of the flat (walls, floors, and doors) are designed to give appropriate protection. Once a 999 call is made and firefighters arrive at the fire, then the advice may be reinforced or change depending on the nature and development of the fire, the building and its tenants.

Where can I find further information about fire safety?

Further information is available from your housing officer or you can contact your local fire station to arrange a home safety visit or explore the Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue website.

Why does The Square have a different fire procedure?

The Square was built many years ago and was not initially built as flats so different evacuation procedures are needed.

What should sheltered housing tenants do in the event of a fire?

Sheltered housing tenants should follow the same rules. Smoke detectors are linked within the flat schemes and are connected to a call centre. They will also dial 999.

I'd struggle to evacuate my flat in an emergency, what should I do?

Please contact us to arrange for a personal emergency evacuation plan to be completed.
